Mount Street Trust – Employment Initiative

OPEN is delighted to report that the Network will be participating in a new three year project as part of the Mount Street Trust Employment Initiative (MST-EI). The Mount Street Trust has a long standing involvement in philanthropic endeavour in the Greater Dublin Area. The Trust has recently decided to spend down funds over a three year period by supporting actions to tackle poverty resulting from unemployment. One element of this is the Employment Initiative. The aim of the MST – Employment Initiative is

“To design and implement inclusive labour market services which address the multiple and diverse barriers to employment that vulnerable target groups face”

Specific objectives of the Initiative are to:

  • Generate positive and durable outcomes for vulnerable groups through an integrated approach to addressing the multiple barriers such groups experience
  • Develop innovation and good practice in relation to partnership approaches and integrated working
  • Contribute to ongoing knowledge and practice in relation to appropriate responses to unemployment at the local level
  • Generate meaningful learning for policy and appropriate linkage to the policy context

Three organisations have been selected to implement the Initiative – the Irish National Organisation for the Unemployed (INOU); the Ballymun Job Centre; and OPEN. These organisations will work individually and collaboratively over a three year period to provide interventions to participants; to develop synergies at local level; and to bring about policy change.

The overall management agency for MST-EI is the Work Research Co-operative (WRC).
